She was born in Roswell on March 29, 1985. Gerina Michelle Mendoza is her birth name. Gerina Stevenson was born to Mexican parentage Rita Stevenson and Alan Stevenson. She is Mexican as well as American. From the time she was little she's always been interested to play sports. Gerina first started golfing at the age of 15. Gerina went to Goddard High School for her secondary education. The school won an award at the New Mexico State Golf Tournament in her high school years. As a volleyball player, she also competed in state competitions. She joined the University of Texas, Texas in 2003. She was the only winner of all competitions she participated in during her senior year. While in her university career, she was named Conference USA individual champion player of the year as well as the UTEP Female Athletics Player of the Year.
